Journalist Peter Boer takes a look at the modern history of Canadians who have fallen victim to the errors and sins of our country’s justice and law enforcement systems. James Driskell, David Milgaard, Guy Paul Morin and Steven Truscott are among the better-known Canadians wrongfully convicted of murder. There are others, however, dating back to the 1950s. Romeo Phillion, Gregory Parsons, Wilbert Coffin and Donald Marshall Jr. also are among those eventually exonerated of their convictions. In the case of Coffin, his innocence was only discovered after he was hanged.
