JOEL RIPPEL was born and raised in a small farming town in southern Minnesota. He started working for the weekly newspaper in his hometown when he was 16 and has been working in media ever since. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and has had six other books published, one of which was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award. He worked for 17 years at the Minneapolis Star Tribune as a news assistant.

J. ALEXANDER POULTON is a writer, photographer and genuine sports enthusiast. He's even willing to admit he has ''called in sick'' during the broadcasts of major sports events so that he can get in as much viewing as possible. He has earned his BA in English literature and his graduate diploma in journalism.
